We are incredibly disappointed and at the same time we are trying not to become too cynical.
We take the honor code seriously here at Georgia Tech where we aim to develop not only the next generation of scholars and engineers, but future leaders of good character. All told, he said about 1, students took exams in the implicated classes, although there is no figure yet on how many test-takers may have cheated. That's an idiotic way of learning. At this point, we have offered students a chance to come forward admitting their misconduct on this exam, and we are working to determine if others are involved.Ī Tech spokesman said Monday Tech was looking at possible cheating in two widely subscribed physics classes that had several sections. The class has already moved onto new material which you are expected to know, but you didn't learn the right way to do the previous material.Ĭome test time, you have to now undo what you learned and relearn it again the correct way, which is above and beyond all the other things you have to do to prepare for an exam.
You find out you got a terrible grade, but more importantly, you just learned how to do all these problems the wrong way. So say you do an assignment, spent a ton of time on it, hand it in, and then maybe a week or more later, you get it turned back corrected. It seems that most people here see it as a study aid that isn't cheating as long as you use it correctly, and I totally agree with that. Having been a tutor and a TA, they should be showing up when they're scheduled even if no one is usually there! Obviously sometimes people will flake and forget, but it shouldn't happen very often at all. Youre just pointing out that you aren't receiving the services you are paying for. They are responsible for getting their own self fired. Yes, I have been meaning to! I just worry that I would be personally responsible for getting a TA in trouble or fired. They are likely being paid to be there and if they arent then they dont deserve to be paid and you are paying tuition for their services and you should be able to use it. Is the guilt justified? Am I cheating? Do you use Chegg? Kind of off topic, but I'if your TAs or tutors arent showing up to their scheduled times, tell someone.
I feel really terrible about paying for a "tutoring" service that is mostly a database of old questions similar to mine but it seemed better than nothing. And the obvious less guilt-ridden answer is Khan Academy but I hate tutorial videos and Paul's notes is only for math. It takes a very long time to go through other universities' online notes to find the pieces relevant to my assignments. The scheduled tutors often don't show up to office hours and our in-class examples are purely conceptual. Georgia Tech warns physics students who cheated: Admit it or risk failing Want flair? Is using Chegg cheating? I am really struggling with my physics homework and do so every week. Meme posts made outside this time will be removed.
